Julie Walusayi

Ms. Julie Walusayi came to the United States in 1995 from the Republic of Congo, a French speaking country in Central Africa. She could not communicate in English and felt frustrated. After 2 years of ESL classes, she felt comfortable to start her career. In Congo she had seen people suffering from sickness due to lack of medical professionals to treat them. She and her father helped people in the community by giving them food, clothes, soap and many items that were essential for their daily living. Besides giving them items she also provided hope and emotional support regardless of their situation. She believes that nursing is her passion.

Nathalie Emile

Ms. Nathalie Emile came to the United States in 2010 after Haiti suffered an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude. During this time Ms. Emile volunteered to help the victims of the Earthquake by providing direct care and helping to relieve their physical and mental pain. From that experience she realized that she had a great deal of passion for taking care of people. She envisioned being a nurse so that she could care for sick people. The earthquake experience gave her vision for her future career.

Coming to America changed her life. She was sad and felt miserable to have left her family and friends back in Haiti. This was made worse by not knowing English and not being able to communicate with people in the community. Many times, she contemplated returning home but she did not give up. She pushed herself to learn English by reading newspapers and taking classes. She is a go getter and did not want to give up by returning to her country. She believes that being in America is the best way for many people to have the opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Ms. Emile has been working at Elizabeth Seton Residences in Wellesley as a CNA for almost 5 years. She believes that this job teaches her to be more patient, compassionate, responsible, and appreciative of people for who they are.

She has been enrolled at the Labouré College to receive her Associates degree in Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. She states, “I am grateful to LTCFA to be awarded this Scholarship that will help me achieve my academic goals.”
